Parks and Protected Areas
Outstanding Questions
1. Which National Dataset to Use? (LRDW or Parks Canada Version)
- Matt: Use the LRDW data, I don't want historic sites or marine protected areas.
2. Where can we get Regional Parks Data.
- Matt: Regional parks will come from Dan Buffet - not available yet.
3. Where can we get ICUN associations - Per Wallenius (Per.Wallenius@gov.bc.ca). Anne has already sent emails requesting this data.
- Matt: For IUCN classifications I guess we'll wait to hear from Per - he may come to next week's meeting.
Data Information
- Matt: The data tree looks good.
In the tree we are going to see something like this:
Parks
-Region
- National
* Park 1
* Park 2
* ...
- Provincial
* Park 9
* Park 10
* ...
- Regional
* Park 6
* Park 7
* ...
- ICUN Class
* Class A
* Class B
Data Sources:
- Provincial Dataset - "Parks and Protected Areas" from the LDRW
- National Dataset
- Two Options:
- LRDW Option - National Parks - National Framework Canada Lands Administrative Boundaries Level 1
- Data From Greg McMillan? @ Parks Canada
- The data in these datasets is similar however they contain the following differences:
- Parks Canada has two additional Historic Sites not included in the LRDW Data (Fort Rd Hill & Chilkoot Trail)
- The Parks Canada for Gwaii Haanas (Queen Charlotte Islands Area) extends into the Ocean.
- The Parks Canada data for Gulf Islands Does not extend into the ocean.
- Regardless of which dataset we use we end up trimming all data that is outside the 1km buffer of the BC.
- Two Options:
- Regional Parks
- WHERE TO GET THIS DATA ????
